1. ABOUT US
The Downtown Business Association (DBA) is a coalition of businesses, property owners and civic organizations working together to promote and improve business and civic activity in Downtown Weirton.  Its concerns and interests include Main Street up to County Road/Penn. Ave. areas as well as the Cove Road and Freedom Way areas.

The DBA is a non-profit and donation-funded organization and is a member of the International Downtown Association (IDA), National Main Street Center and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

A chairman and a Board of Directors, many who represent various businesses or civic groups in the downtown area, manage the DBCA. Officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer & Secretary) are appointed by the Board of Directors to handle day-to-day matters.

2. ”FIRST TUESDAY” MEETINGS
The regular meeting of the members of the DBA is held on the first Tuesday of each month at 12:00 noon in the Rose Room, Millsop Community Center.  Its meetings are open to the general public.

3. MISSION STATEMENT
The DBA's mission is: (1) to revitalize and improve all aspects of downtown Weirton, including its appearance; (2) to promote and maintain a downtown that is attractive and favorable to business and residents; (3) to be the unified and influential voice for downtown; and, (4) to provide leadership for downtown interests.

4. WHY IS THE DOWNTOWN IMPORTANT?
It is important to recognize the economic and social value of downtowns as commercial, civic, and government centers.  Downtown
Weirton is the heart of our community, reflecting its overall image and identity and, like most downtown areas, is a symbol of our city’s pride, economic health, self-image and quality of life. Since downtown can either be an asset or a liability in the effort to retain or attract residents and businesses to our community, we must improve its appearance and image.

5. ADVOCACY
The DBA advocates on behalf of downtown Weirton to achieve goals, including promotion of diverse business and civic opportunities, activities and events, security, beautification, parking issues, community relations, marketing and other efforts that improve downtown Weirton.

There must be the will and desire to revitalize downtown and improve its physical appearance. Public support for change will build as the DBA program grows and consistently meets its goals. Eventually, skeptics turn into believers and attitudes will change. The DBA believes it can shift public perceptions and practices to support and sustain the revitalization process.

6. MARKETING
The DBA works to support the success of business and civic groups in the downtown community.  Your support and involvement allows us to continue to brand the downtown with consistent messages to the public through all of our marketing and promotional efforts.

7. MEMBERSHIP SERVICES
The DBA strives to provide a high level of service to our members, such as marketing opportunities, leadership and various other services.  It provides informational seminars, important information, and promotional opportunities for our members and are constantly looking for ways to make the life of the downtown merchants and civic groups easier and more successful. The DBA always keeps its members up to date with recent news, information, or events relevant to the downtown area.

The following are examples of services that are and will be available to members:

Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies: Available to new businesses in the community, businesses completing a major remodeling project, moving to a new location or new ownership, or other significant milestone.

Downtown Business Directory: Thousands of copies of a business directory listing all the downtown businesses and organizations are distributed to thousands of residents, businesses, the press and visitors.

Smart Brief: Members will receive each day a “Smart Brief” from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).  The “Smart Brief” brings the news for small and independent business owners that really matter.  The “Smart Brief” editors handpick key business-related articles from hundreds of publications, do a brief summary of each and provide links back to the original source.

“Lunch & Learn” Program: The “Lunch & Learn” program is a series of meetings with speakers discussing a host of informational topics.  This program allows members to learn more about business and current events, business management topics, community interest and legislative issues. We are proud hosts of the “State of the County” addresses and co-hosts of the “Legislative Luncheon” and “Regional Economic Outlook” luncheon.

Projects: The DBA anticipates being involved in various downtown improvement projects, particularly signage, beautification and streetscape projects. The DBA anticipates being involved in projects to renovate or improve recreational facilities in the Downtown area, such as the Weirton Millsop Community Center, Edwin J. Bowman (Cove) Baseball Field and Jimmy Carey Football Stadium.

The DBA is always interested and willing to consider new projects to promote the downtown area.  It also welcomes different opinions and encourage involvement and leadership in various events and promotions.

Partnerships with Area Media: The DBA is currently working with various radio, print and television publications to create promotional packages and advertising discounts for downtown merchants.

Downtown Theme Campaigns: The DBA will be creating theme campaigns for the downtown area. These themes campaigns will be a collaborative effort with other agencies and organizations that promote the downtown area with different themes.
